It was a simpler time in 1950. Phoenix had a population of about a hundred thousand, north Phoenix was considered to be near Thomas Road and 12th Street, and if you were hiring a contractor you shook hands and work would begin. This was the era our company was established.

Our founder, Wayne Houser, was a painter and paperhanger by trade. He made up his mind that he wanted to start his own company, and build something as solid as Camelback Mountain. He decided to name his company Camelback Painting & Decorating. He specialized in dry wall, paper hanging and painting. As one of the first licensed contractors in the state of Arizona, Wayne’s vision was to build a business based on integrity, giving exceptional value, and putting it all together for his customers. Starting his projects with a handshake, and getting them done right earned him repeat business.

As his company grew, he realized he would need help and brought his son, Wade, into the family business. Wade learned everything he could about the trades, and how to take care of the people who trusted him with their projects. Under Wade’s leadership, the company transitioned into Camelback Contractors, and began to literally “put it all together” for our customers. Our clients’ homes were in need of fire restoration, storm damage repair, and full scale remodeling. Wade helped Camelback Contractors grow to meet those needs.

As time, and our company progressed, Wade’s son Jim, joined the team. Jim’s dedication has allowed our company to now offer complete ADA accessibility remodeling, so families can have a home that accommodates every member. Jim’s commitment to our customers ensures every job is completed properly and on budget. For three generations, Camelback Contractors has been putting it all together for our customers. This dedication is why we have outlasted countless other contractors, and why we will be around for another 60 years of restoring Arizona homes.
